BS you say? How many other states do you know that put together a sovereign wealth fund like we did that put 25% of all the money received from state resources into a permanent fund (I think it is 50% now?) , then stuck it into the Constitution so that it takes a three quarters vote from both houses to touch the principal, inflation proofs it first thing every year, spreads the investments around the world so the criminals in the state can't get at them, and offers a permanent fund dividend check to every person in the state of around $2000 every single year and has had enough revenue to pay for all of our social services?

The permanent fund is what allows us to not have to pay any taxes. We haven't had enough oil revenue for a long time to do that. And the Republicans/conservatives hated that permanent fund and fought us every step of the way on it.

Imagine if Texas, or California, or Oklahoma, or any number of states had put 25% of all their income from state resources in a permanent fund like we did. It was liberals that did that and we fought the Republicans , as mentioned, every step of the way to achieve that. Well the Republicans and the oil companies.

Norway another liberal country created a sovereign wealth fund that has almost $1 trillion in it. If we hadn't had to pay off the Republicans and the oil companies as much as we did we would have a lot more than 60 billion we have now.

And you ask what we can do in the lower 48 to achieve what we did in Alaska. That is simple, we can offer free preschool starting at the age of 2 1/2 with a hot meal for every child in America and on the other end offer community colleges with no entrance exams or requirements that are affordable near every major population center in the United States.

That is what you do. Imagine If little bush had used the $5 trillion he pissed away on that stupid war and tax cuts for the rich on education outlined above instead. If he had done that today we would be much further ahead intellectually than where we are. You provide affordable or free public education starting at 2 1/2 and running through two years a community college to as many people who want to take advantage of it and you will see a massive transformation of this country for the good intellectually and socially.

koan:"We did that, we ad hoc Democrats in the 70s."

<<BS. What happened is that Alaska had a small population, and lots of oil (and other natural resources). I'm asking how you can make the liberal Utopia you dream of happen in the US today. We don't have infinite natural resources to plunder and waste unfortunately...
