I remember in the 60's and 70's PSA commercials running that reminded resident aliens of their need to register on an annual basis.

I had a Russian roommate who had to deal with various government agencies on a regular basis. It's likely because his family came here during the Soviet era.

Anyway, here's what Politifact has to say on the matter:

Sounds like a lot of flip-flopping that is typical with Trump's bombastic rhetoric, which leaves a lot of room for interpretation.

Anyway, I think it's prudent to track Syrian refugees, or even put a temporary halt on accepting them into our borders. I don't think it's necessary, but I also won't oppose it.

But when that extends to ALL Muslims, that's when I have to put my foot down. Not because I think Islam is the "religion of peace" (it isn't), but because it has severe implications on religious liberty in general.
