The press release said Miramar will take another writedown related to
the reclassification of reserves at the Con Mine to resources. This
will eat up more of their cash.

I believe that when I looked at the last quarterly it appeared cash was down to $1.93 per share. So they were bleeding cash.

This is at the very least a necessary move.

And it has to mean that they didn't have all production hedged, or have inventory they plan to use. Or will just take a profit and buy in the sold contracts.
