Hi all... Just back from vacation in rainy Florida :(

Brian- It is no longer the settlement date that is important when considering the last day for tax loss selling pressure. The tax rules changed a couple years ago so that the trade date is now the date of the transaction for tax reporting purposes, not the settlement. Therefore, tomorrow is the last day that one can sell for a tax loss.

Grant- You raise a valid question about Osicom as an acquisition target. I believe such a transaction would be contigent upon shareholders approval, which I believe would be firmly voted down at any level near $6. Keep in mind that the insiders are the major shareholders and they are more in touch with the value of the technology at hand, which I believe makes the company worth at least $15 per share today. If I were asked to vote on the issue, I wouldn't accept anything less than $20 today. Volpe's independent reveiw of the companies' business units is a step in the right direction for realizing that value.

Peter- you make some valid points about the slide and the recently reported financial results contributing to the price decline. I will argue that, had it not been for the Barrons article or the Business Week article, the price would have not seen these levels. After those articles came out, investors became more nervous about their holdings and some just gave up. On top of that, tax loss selling has added to the downward pressure. That's fine with me... I believe I'm firmly on top of what's going on with the company and the progress they are making, so I'm adding to my position at these lower levels. All of the work to bring out significant new products with the combined technologies is finally starting to pay off (admittedly, a few months later than I expected). This quarter appears to be on track to be a potential record breaker and demand is heating up for their new products to propell revenues and earnings much higher. I beleive 1998 will be a very, very good year for Osicom and it's stock price

Tax loss or gain is calculated by transaction date, not settlement date. 12/31 is the last day for tax loss selling this year.
