And importantly, there is significant overlap between the basic motivations of the people who are supporting Bernie supporters of Trump (excluding the racist angle). They just see a different causal relationship to the reality. As I was telling a conservative leaning friend who voted for and funded Obama in 08:
As you say, there is a disconnect between what people say and the reality. One of those disconnects is in the ideological thinking that is so prevalent among the party partisans (and by extension what they feed to the people) and the reality. You really don't need to go much further than observe how huge the disconnect between Marxism and its implementation proved to be. But Marx didn't have monopoly on misunderstanding the complexity of real world. All sides do it - and many of them believe it.

As a species, we all have the same basic needs and our similarities are far greater than our differences. This is as true about our similarities with Sudanese Islamists as it is with Swedish Liberals. The same cannot be said about ideologies. And when a person identifies more with their ideology than with who they are as a human being, they have lost something critically important and have put themselves on disastrous path.

If you apply logic to what you posted below what you would say is that the Bernie rebels are "equally" as smart as the people in the EU, etc i.e. they recognize that those countries are ahead of us socially and culturally. Which was my point.

And also makes the point that the social theories being put forth by the Bernie campaign are valid and more forward thinking than the other camp. Which is also my point.

The Bernie rebels are arguably the smartest people on the face of the earth

The Bernie rebels want a social safety net like EU, Canada, Oz, and Israel. Seems to me the people Bernie wants to emulate are smarter then the rebels.
