Another large fire east of Winnipeg can be seen in today’s MODIS shots. Sure seems like these fires are growing quickly once they get going.

The fire is between CaddyLake, Long Pine Lake and West Hawk Lake Very scary for this time of year as there has been little rain since the snow melted…

We’ve got fires popping up all around the tar sands. The one to the NE is rated at 1,500 ha in the Google crisis map. No slacker there.

An exception might be the Nexen SAGD facility at Long Lake. Last July there was a 5 million liter pipeline leak covering grass and timber. How much has been cleaned up is unknown.

Fire is expected reach this area Saturday. Can't say how much oil "wicked" into vegetation and still remains, but the fire potential is different than with sand pits.

Also, Nexen uses stored hydrogen in its hydrocracker, thought to be partially responsible for an explosion there.

Our beliefs may be put to the test. Fire is approaching facilities.
