Tom,

Sounds reasonable to me. There's a thread here at SI on which to cast a vote for the worst CEO of 1997. Cowpland has garnered a fair number of votes for this dubious distinction. Of course, if he had been a Microsoft mole all along, I guess that would take him out of the running. On that level, he's done an excellent job.

Then again, we musn't overlook Ray Noorda and his contribution to WP's fall from the top spot after Novell acquired it. I believe Noorda, motivated primarily by a deep and abiding hatred of Bill Gates and Microsoft, made some incredibly bad business decisions.

I never upgraded WP beyond 5.1, and I was dragged kicking and screaming from WP 4.2. My Windows version of WP is the original and is still in its shrink wrap. It's the one with the Cinderella virus.
