that doesnt include new architectual improvements as well. add in hdr and better compression as well as any other new goodies like better layout and better designs. i would buy a card tomorrow that is 20% faster at half the power at peak usage with hdr. i dont need 4k for gaming but hdr will be really really nice.

It seems a little odd if FinFETs and a new arch only gets 20% performance improvement, although @ 50% power. He seems to think Polaris will do about the same. If so, GPUs seems to have about hit the performance wall, same as CPUs.
perf/watt = 1.2/.5 = 240% = "only"?

"Hit that wall" a few more times and you can stick an R9-level GPU in a phone...

for those of us that like to have a fanless/silent video card that means a huge performance increase.

AMD/Nvidia rarely target the 75W power limit exactly with the chip designs and often end up with a 125W vs 50W option with something like triple the performance for the higher power card.

Bam new process and they up the performance by 20% for that hot card that used to require a fan and it becomes an under 75W option with no fan and still faster.

Now compare the HD7750 vs the Polaris11 that will draw similar power. Is it 4 times the GPU power, more?

It's a huge upgrade for those of us that were buying mid grade cards based on performance/noise ratio.

Not as big a deal for the guys with 8 fans in their tower case and 3 fans on the video card. Woohoo they drop one or two fans.

Big deal for the guys with 0, 1 or 2 case fans and 0 fans on the video card.
