Doug: "... see any errors in this logic?". No, of course not, but the
fact remains no matter what they do, (even in your scenario), the
critical piece IMHO is not pricing and packaging, it's "mindshare".
Novell has (and "will still have") the same problem. They waited much
too long and lost the mindshare to MSFT. The marketshare followed, and
continues to follow. IBM is embracing NT, and integrated "MS" apps
"big time". And like Novell, a superior product does not mean a thing.
The CE/I/FO's a**es are on the line, and they are not recommending a
major purchase of anything but Redmond. IOW, nobody wants or cares
about Netware, or Corel products any longer. Rod knows this. Right,
Rod? Leo, Mr. Bean: I'll pick it up for a buck or less and then ride
it for a quick buck after the breakup and "takeunder". Happy New Year.

I have no idea what the ramifications of that would be but clearly Corel doesn't have a marketing strategy of their own. That's what these marketing research services are for so why don't they use them? They haven't done a valid analysis of the potential for such a move on their own, that much is clear. They were so far off base with the 3.1 version that we have to assume their marketing research is nothing more than a guess.

Hi Doug,

No errors per se, but these were some of the reasons I had bought in a looong time ago. But due to the inept management of Cowcrap and his former sales/marketing manager, they have failed miserably. Rod has it right in alot of respects.

The only bright spot is that they have two new shrewd managers, and a depressed stock-price.
