TopCat,
Surely, you've been around long enough to know that nobody get elected without blowing a lot of wind....
I like to think that words still have meaning, even coming out of the mouth of a politician.

Take the whole ban on Muslims, which I have said is a dealbreaker to me. There is an argument going around saying that Trump really doesn't mean it, and that if he becomes president, he would never get such a ban enacted.

Perhaps, but the fact that Trump has to get elected by saying stuff like this is bad enough. It doesn't matter if he never acts on it, because he will have validated the sentiment, and that in itself bodes ill for the future of religious freedom.

Same thing with the notion of renegotiating the federal debt. Even if he never actually acts upon the promise, the very idea itself will gain traction by his political victory. And that will cause a lot of fear and uncertainty in the global markets.

P.S. - Ironically I feel like Trump's words have more weight than Hillary's. Maybe it's because when Trump says something, he acts like he really does mean it at the time. Hillary doesn't even bother.
