By then there will be another 250M recent model iPhones and another 750M recent model Android phones in circulation. I've been a great fan of the mobile Fad and was one of the early predictors here on SI on my AMD board (to much laughter) on how it would clobber PC's, but its time to start admitting the Fad is peaking as well. Its best to see these things ahead of time rather than in the rear-view mirror.

Fad is a terrible description of the mobile market.

Yes, smartphone sales are going to peak. That doesnt mean that iPhone sales have peaked or that there will not be multiple upgrade cycles within the secular downturn in overall sales. The current valuation of Apple means that timing those increases is likely to be profitable.

Ultimately, Apple will need to find their next growth engine but declaring that the iPhone is a fad or the next Blackberry is absurd.
