Brian White: Apple Is 'Definitely' a Buy Here

According to our two TA guys here, WRONG. And they've been pretty accurate over the years. Cudos to you both. Apple has never had a very high P/E, like the other tech companies even when it was killing them, so the downside might just be lower than people traditionally expect.

I'm thinking about selling, maybe putting in the order tomorrow, taking a tax write off, maybe buying in again if the 7 is the disaster it looks like its going to be. I can't see any reasons Apple would be a good investment now except the buyback and the dividend, and the cheap price. And there are better dividend plays out there. I think there are significant downside risks, worse than expected quarterlies, incremental 7, Samsung, Chinese government, Qualcomm integrated chips. Lots of potential bad news. - Can anyone see any good news?

I don't have that much, but enough to hurt. Overall, over the years I can't complain.

When I bought in originally it was a no brainer. From their adoption of UNIX it was a no brainer. I think now the problem is Cook cannot demote Ive, and without that change there won't be change in the right direction. Neither blockbuster products nor improvements to their OSs. In fact the OSs have gotten worse, as has the hardware.
Maybe with the 7 being an incremental upgrade they'll have time to do something worth consumer interest with the 8 but even that isn't a guarantee.

I think I have to rethink my investing right now. The hot area is AI, but the companies that are ahead are not cheap. Apple was totally cheap considering what they had with the UNIX thing and then the iPod/iPhone. That's a rare opportunity, a no brainer the general public doesn't understand.
