Ralph, personally I don't think it matters much whether a stock is largely held by institutions. Maybe others on the thread have opinions. I figure that institutions have winners and losers. They have to invest their money and they have to diversify so they will have their share of losers. Also (to justify my short bias on this stock) I would guess that if portfolio managers need to sell stocks in a down market, Party City is not a core holding that they will hold to the bitter end.
The highly trained economists never seem to forecast the economy accurately, so I won't try. But I would guess that IF the economy is slowing, retail stores like Party City will probably not meet expectations.
