I'm not familiar with 'Principles Securities' from Texas. Given the difference in spelling it could be an entirely different company.
That being said, if The Principal sells anything it must fit into one of 2 catagories:

1)It no longer fit the marketing plan. Insurance companies are behemouths and don't turn on a dime and change MP's very often.
2)It was is a real dog and a drag on their bottom line.

Knowing The Principal, I am not surprised at them selling it because the are extremely conservative. The activities of a firm dealing in or out of small stocks isn't their cup of tea.
