Franz,

I haven't read it anywhere, but it probably makes sense that Apple wouldn't want Access as part of Office 98 as a means of protecting its FileMaker investment. Tons of Office users use Access because it ships with the suite -- it's the database on hand.

But moving Access over to the Mac could submarine the long-reliable profits that Claris has been pulling from Mac users for years (it has been one of the only database choices for them -- at least those with no stomach for FoxPro, and who could blame them) just as it's hoping to build with FileMaker.

You may have to get into bed with the devil to survive, but you don't have to wear his socks.
