Vet-- I know several coin and bullion dealers, and they informed me they could not keep 1/2 and 1 oz. gold coins in stock during the last 30 day xmas rush. The most popular bullion coin being the maple leaf.
St. Gaud $20's being the most popular collector coin.
More interesting, all 3 dealers had
no one selling any gold coins over the last 30 days!
100 oz silver bars are just about none existant in the physical market. No one has been selling into the run-up in silver.
Obviously some are socking away at these prices.

Those of us still getting spot quotes on deliverable Dec 97 Cash Gold, please note we are showing GO'Z up 10.20 per oz, trading at 302.0 currently...

This also could account for the increased premium in gold coins.

Of course, buyers of gold coins through the wholesale channels, such as I do, lessens the spread/premium game considerably, fortunately.

RE: last batch of large gold quantities I bot for a client, he had to wait 10 extra biz days to get delivery straight from the US mint...but it was worth it to him...boy those puppies are purdy!!!

Then there is the paperless trade in gold which is going for about 5x spot...but y'all probably don't want to hear about that, right?(grin)
