California's high speed rail delayed another 4 years
    By Rick Moran

The incredible journey of California's high speed rail took another hit this past week when authorities inked a contract revision pushing back the opening of the first segment of the line from 2018 to 2022. Project costs for this one, 119 mile stretch of track through the relatively empty Central Valley have topped $69 billion, with only a fraction of those funds appropriated. The high speed rail authority has only purchased half the land necessary to complete the first leg of the project and not a single foot of track has been laid. The feds are blaming opponents of the project, citing lawsuits and other nuisances. But in fact, the project began with no vision about how it would be funded or built. Politico: Concerns about the project’s viability, however, extend well beyond NIMBY-ism and car-bias. The estimated price tag is now equivalent to 35 times the annual federal subsidy for Amtrak.

I lived in CA for 30 of the 40 years between 1963 and 2003. It was nuttiness like this, which leads to higher taxes, making the state even more unaffordable to live in that finally convinced me to get out. I can speak with some knowledge of the typical Californian that even if this monstrosity is completed (it won't be), virtually no one will use it. You can drive between the Bay Area and LA in 7 hours and have a car to get around once you get there. Why would anyone pay a ridiculous price to ride a train and then add to the tab for a rental car at their destination just to save a couple of hours? Last time I checked, if you want to do that, you can fly cheaper and faster than riding a train. Moonbattery such as this convinces me I was right to bail 13 years ago. I've never regretted it for a second.

The project is a great success already. Democrats have been able to provide patronage jobs to many thousands of voters, and to line their campaign chests and Swiss bank accounts with skimmed off billions.

Who says Democrats are incompetent? They just lie about their true goals.

-and money for endless litigation and environmental impact studies... all being redistributed to Democrats. It's part of their plan.

Everything about liberalism is a pose. Fake. A put on.

This rail line would never be used by anyone if it were built. But it will never be finished and imo they never intend to finish it. It's all just a con to put a lot of money in politically connected pockets.

Leo DeCrapio just flew 8000 miles in a private jet to receive an environmental award. Only an idiot would think Leo or the people who gave him the phony baloney award believe in the climate threat. It's a pose. 100%.

Rat posts pictures of a train being blocked by protestors somewhere but he'll never blockade his local gas station. Just like the idea of putting solar panels on the commercial building he rehabbed never occurred to him. I mean it wasn't his home, no one who knows him would know the panels on the business building would have been put there by him. So it wasn't even an issue. Solar panels are for display.

51 Muslim countries just voted to ban gay groups from even attending UN AIDS meetings. The liberal media won't say a word about that. But if a pizza parlor out in mid-America says maybe they wouldn't cater a gay wedding it's a major story.

Liberals on SI regularly use gay accusations as insults. The truth is liberals don't give a rat's ass about gays, climate change, crime victims, guns, or any of their pet causes. It's all a pose.
