The velocity of the 9mm is about 30% more than a typical .380 of the same weight. This equal more energy, penetration...etc. You can even the energy buy using Buffalo Bore ammo. Higher velocity in .380 than typical shelf bought.

I think you are correct...at the distances where you are likely to be forced to use your .380....I don't think the stopping power makes all that much difference...my CCW is a S&W .Bodyguard .380.
