Hey Christine, I feel very comfortable with my religious beliefs and so there's really not too much anyone could say to me to give me pause...on the other hand I work very hard at keeping an open mind and attempt to understand, if not accept, others belief systems (that's a real challenge for me of the mentally challenged group of humans.) <heh, heh, heh> I really do miss the church I was brought up in (people, building, etc.) It has a very rich Polish history and the windows are extemely beautiful (probably from the money we got from the Incas...heh,heh.) My sister is an artist and lives in Portland...she's the one that remarked how great the stained glass portraits, etc are as compared to other churchs she's been in. As for a true religion...with the exception of some belief systems, which I consider very extreme, I don't think the Almighty is overly selective. I may be wrong, but I also believe He does not care what name He is given...as a matter of fact...for all I know..He may be a She...it's really not that important in my eyes. The bottomline for me is if I live my life to the near-best (very few overachievers in the human race) of my abilities, accept others for what they are and remain true to my belief system I have an above average chance of be rewarded. On the other hand, if I opted not to believe due to some challenge in life, etc I think I would stand an equal chance of not being saved. Jokes...hmmm..let's see if I can get this one right... A young priest was having doubts about his career in life, his mental stability, etc, etc and went to visit a "shrink." After several visists the shrink told him he needed to get away for awhile and live the life of an ordinary man. He further instructed him not to tell anyone of his past... just to "kick back" and relax. The young priest approached his bishop and received a "leave of absence." Since he always wanted to visit Hawaii he bought a round trip ticket and landed in Honolulu for his breath of fresh air. After several days of hanging around the beach, surfing, volleyball, etc, etc he decided to check out the night life. After a great meal he strolled down one of the quieter streets until he approached a topless bar. At first he thought about passing by..but then the words of his shrink hit him and before he knew it he was sitting at one of the tables...AND ENJOYING THE VIEW. He noticed a particularly attractive waitress coming his way. He couldn't help but notice all the splendid gifts she had been blessed with. When she arrived at his table she broke into a big smile, hugged the priest and said "Father Smith...how great it is to see you again." His jaw bounced off the table and with an astonishing look he said "I'm sorry, but you seem to have the advantage...I don't believe I know you, I am on a sabatical prescribed by my Doctor." She began to laught out loud and when she regained her composure she said..."That wouldn't be Doctor Johnsrud...would it?" The young priest even more astonished said "why..yes it is..how did you know?" The young lady replied.."Because he's my doctor too...I'm Sister Mary Ellis...we use to work together." I know...not a knee-slapper...but remember, this was told in a Catholic church...nuns and all. Better go...talk to you later, T.R.
