Clark, **OT**,

Your points could have been made against IBM with equal or greater strength throughout the 60s, 70s and most of the 80s. IBM had more than 85% market share, chased most of its competitors into oblivion - when was the last time you heard anyone talk about the "BUNCH": Burroughs, Univac, NCR?, CDC and Honeywell? They're all toast or nearly so.

In this world of technology, dozens of enterprising new companies are being spawned daily. All it takes to enter the software business is a good idea.

I still believe that MSFT is guilty of having some enthusiastic though inexperienced managers who are too focused on MSFT's success without paying sufficient regard to how their actions will appear to a sadly underinformed justice department. ... especially when MSFT's competitors twist the facts in the most unflattering way possible.

Let the businesses compete fairly; keep beaurocrats, politicians and other forms of corruption out of the process. I fear their impacts far more than any potential monopoly abuse by MSFT.

FWIW,
Ian
