They wouldn't necessarily replace the entire system. They would need to identify the exact culprit (component) in order to make that determination. Hence TPRO's 4500 component database. First they would identify a date sensitive problem down to the component level. Perhaps using a diagnostic tool such as the Validor 2000 from B-Tree in conjunction with thier PlantOneY2K CD (detailed methodology). The component would be replaced with date compliant re-programmed code such as a Micro-Controller, with internal ROM.
UVROM's can be erased with ultra-violet light and re-programmed with date compliant code. Some components may be obsolete with no alternative replacement. As a last resort, a system would be replaced if it contains unsupported (vendor/OEM), obsolete (no suitable substitute), undocumented (no source code, equations, or ROM/disk resident master code). Obviously this would be far costlier to the customer.
