If he bought the place for 6 million and took a 4.8 mil mortgage, his monthly payment would be about 22,800 of which 15,800 would be tax deductible interest.... of course, he would have real estate taxes and maintenance.
So it might be a better deal to buy since about 1/2 of his interest and taxes would be returned...
