I realize that I am as prone to create meaningless patterns as the next guy. But a decline in originator standards tells you something about the consumer credit environment - probably the same thing that aggregate consumer credit balances tells you, or aggregate household debt.

I would argue the rally in high yield is probably just a rally. Volatility goes up in both directions as a bull market is flagging. You can make money trading against the fundamentals, but since I suck at trading I kind of rely on some knowledge of the fundamentals to hopefully make up for it. I think there are people out there who are very good traders, and as Jim Rogers would say "I wish them well."
