In light of his article you just linked, this one is most interesting:

Frum had previously been a vocal critic of Republican presidential candidate McCain's choice of Sarah Palin as his running mate on the ground that Palin was unqualified to assume the presidency. Speaking of Palin's performance during the campaign, Frum stated, "I think she has pretty thoroughly—and probably irretrievably—proven that she is not up to the job of being president of the United States." [37] Nevertheless, he ultimately stated his support for Palin, writing "But on Tuesday, I will trust that she can learn. She has governed a state—and … it says something important that so many millions of people respond to her as somebody who incarnates their beliefs and values. At a time when the great American middle often seems to be falling further and further behind, there may be a special need for a national leader who represents and symbolizes that middle."

So he is guilty of dismantling one of the guardrails himself...

The neocons are the most intellectual group that the conservatives have produced in recent memory. Frum is one of them. He never was and likely never will be a liberal. But he does not like idiots and he is able to smell BS when he sees it. Items 2, 3, and 4 are the crux of the problem. In their short sighted drive for power the GOP spread the seeds of its self destruction. What you are seeing in Trump is class warfare and struggle within the GOP.

The Dems won't end up that much better if Hillary does not go through a major personality change and find herself on a better ideological footing. That she is struggling against 2 people that should have been a cakewalk for her to defeat should tell you as much.

Both parties are critically ill. It's just that one will have to through chemo and radio therapy. But the other could recover in an ICU with some care.
