Sioux, I'm so sorry for your loss. There must be some perfect point of impact because I dropped my 6, granted not a 6 Plus, on a concrete floor with only minuscule scratches to the housing and it wasn't in any case whatsoever.

It seems to be hit or miss...........pardon the pun.

Sioux, what kind of case and from what height? Did it hit on a corner?

$172 sounds a little high to me. The Apple Store by us replaced my wife's 6 Plus screen for $125, not including tax. They said it would have been $150 if the phone had been a 6s. Plus the Apple Store told us that their price included a replacement phone if it did not meet their testing criteria after replacement. Good luck with this!
