A brand-new, wide-open market that can and will take off in a million directions, and I want to be a part of it.

I hope it works out for you!

I remain a bit skeptical of the whole VR/AR market. There will be some uses, but nothing like what smartphones have done.

The problem I see is that most your arguments also apply to AMD's graphic heavy APU's, i.e. priced well and targeting the largest market segments, but somehow the lagging CPU performance doomed AMD to a minor market share vs Intel. The best days of AMD was when it had the halo effect of being the performance champ.

There is a long history of AMD faring poorly when their strategy is a price war at the low to mid range market because they lack the high end parts.

Re: Zen... What is UP with the hand-wringing? All that's happened is A) it's still "on track", B) silicon is apparently "working", and C) it will be sampling within weeks. I for one was not expecting actual Zen benchmarks, but apparently, the lack thereof is wrist-slit-worthy...

.......agreed........apparently only taped out in Jan.......earliest they could have had silicon was mid Feb.
If they can launch the desktop by Nov/Dec, I think that would be quite good. I don't know what people here expect Lisa to say. She is NOT going to say, claim, or do anything reckless at this point. It's not her nature .......especially if things are looking good and progressing on their schedule. Sounds like they will send out some samples to customers before the end of the month (meeting her past stated goals) with wider sampling starting in July. She stated they will be providing a lot more information on progress in the next few months. At least now, I'm not at all concerned. Sounds like it will be very power efficient......just hope it can compete on single thread performance within perhaps 10% of Intel .........should know in a few months

MediaTek pushing VR:

digitimes.com

It will be interesting to see how Google does with Daydream. They seem to have a lot of OEMs interested.
