Full Article:Roby woman says police forced standoff
ROBY, Ill., Dec. 30 (UPI) _ Shirley Allen, the woman who held police at bay outside her central Illinois home for 39 days, says the standoff never would have happened had police handled the situation differently.

Allen today says she did not trust officers who arrived at her home in September to serve a warrant requiring her to submit to a psychiatric examination. She says they broke down her door and windows and immediately attacked her home with tear gas.

''They could have knocked on the door and given me the piece of paper to read like a decent human being,'' Allen told the Herald & Review of Decatur, Ill. ''I thought we were decent people. I think we still are, but some people don't operate that way.''

Christian County Sheriff's Chief Deputy Roy Wilbur disagreed, saying Allen ignored attempts to talk her out. He says teargas and force were not used for about two hours.

Allen fired a shotgun at officers three times during the standoff in rural Roby, Ill., wounding a police dog.

Allen was under observation for 47 days following her standoff with police, but a judge earlier this month ordered her released pending a final psychiatric examination.

Hi Glenn, I think the funniest part of that whole story is that she "passed" the competency test and the hospital released her. I wonder how well some of those officers would do. bp Betty, I believe the entire concept to be "scary". Lots of "crazys' around. Glenn
