pc's use to cost $10-20k a piece now they cost $600-2600 for 1000 times the power. DRAMS increased by a factor of 16, that is 1 mb to 16 mb. Now look at MU Hard Drives have done the same thing. 1 GB used to be the size of a refridgerator, Now My notebook has 4 and it is the size of a wallet. But look at the broken disk drive companies along the path. Look at the Mainframe Group. Was that not the end all be all of computing. Where is Unisis, Dec, Wang, Controll Data, Comidor. Microsoft can only consume cpq cycles so fast. The internet is the great killer app that does not need more horsepower. You cite evidence of what I am talking about above. 20K to 2600 for 1000 times the power. That is an 87% reduction in computing cost. next year it will be $1000 for 1000 times the power.
