This appears to me to throw more confusion into the matter. How many today know that they are Jews or whether their bloodline is pure enough to even know if they are Israelites? If the ancestry is not known, yet a person is brought up to be a Jew in belief then you are saying that he is not of the Jewish race and true faith of Judiasm. This is hopeless.

Shalom, Shalom.
Here again Jesus was speaking to the chief priests...Pharisees and Saducees...not descendants of our brother Judah, but those who said they were Jews.... have you ever done a complete word study on the term...Jews?...And Israel?....Jews(descendants of Judah) were only a part of the House of Israel.

Many of the Prahisees and Sadducees were of none of the tribes of Israel but just said they were Jews/tribe of Judah...
Are you saying that the Chief Priests who were picked for their high positions were no Israelites?
How can that be?
James

Hi Shalom,
I am using the word Jews as a lot of people do these days to mean all the descendants of Abraham. I guess that is not literally correct as Jew is short for the tribe of Judah. I'll take your word for that. But the sign hung above Jesus on the cross did say He was the King of the Jews. Did Pilate get it wrong?
But the rest of what you say I have a hard time with. That none of the religious leaders of the day were descended from "Abraham" is not possible in my view. That any had snuck in with a false genealogy is also very unlikely. Because these people were known to each other through the generations falsifying a genealogy would be impossible. The points I made in post #10380 are accurate as far as I can see.
I don't want to discourage any one from studying or discount the value of word studies but I knew a preacher once who had it worked out so that it was OK to have unmarried single "concubines" when he was married! Word study proved it to him. So I am very cautious and I think everyone else should be also.

Have a good one,

Bob
