Supposedly Burry does not short en masse owing to liquidity issues in the often less liquid securities he favors (although I admit this is not much reflected in his holdings as of the last few filings). Of course, he could be shorting large-caps/ ETFs or selling index futures as many macro funds do. He could be using credit derivatives again. Since he doesn't pair-trade I don't think this excuses some of his odd long bets, but it does imply their impact on his net portfolio performance may be different than expected.

Thanks for pointing this out.
