It looks like the shooter in the Fla case had a nice juicy concealed carry permit. Clearly it would be nice if "persons of interest" (as the shooter was, twice) were prohibited from buying guns or getting concealed carry permits. Doesn't mean they wouldn't get guns anyway, but it would be more difficult. But gun control is the 3rd rail for the GOP. Who knows how many bodies it will take before they give it any attention- maybe they just can't.

It seems obvious to me that we shouldn't have persons of interest running around without some surveillance- once they trip some wire to get eyes on them (and the left tends to be a little nervous about that) and the right needs to give a little on the gun control issue- because right now it's way too fucked up.

Aside from that, terrorism and murders will keep happening. Keep those little "We're so sad" ribbons handy. Because my guess is neither side will compromise with the other to do anything meaningful that would actually attenuate this sort of thing (I accidentally used the word stop- which was the wrong word- nothing will stop this sort of thing, but we could definitely minimize events- and nice to see the terrorists going after the LA gay pride parade got caught. That's a win for law enforcement). Neither the wimpy bigots on the right nor the bleeding hearts on the left have the answer to this one- the answer will lie in practical policing and surveillance, really good agency communication, and some effective gun control. But it's obvious at this point no one gives enough of a shit to do anything sensible.
