Edderd,Re: " Please email me how you get your scan onto this thread.".
I'll do it here Edderd so maybe somebody else can give us suggestions. I use a Hewlett Packard OfficeJet Pro 1150C
printer/copier/scanner, hooked up to my computer. You can buy it from CompUSA for $1000. My 16-year-old hooked the whole thing up but I suppose Comp USA can do it for you.
There are problems though. The scanner can't pick up copies of articles made on my hospital's medical library copier or even from Kinko's. Once you scan it, then you have to so-called do an " OCR " on it which essentially changes the scanned document into letter/numerical form that can be posted on the Vivus web-site.
The problem is that the usual PC language/keyboard does not have a lot of medical terms used in the articles such as abbreviations for Micrograms, gamma-submits, delta and so Ont.'s is why I couldn't post all of the article from Science on Retinal Degeneration from Phosphodiesterase inhibition
that I posted yesterday.
Another problem is that you can't post graphs and pictures.
Also, it takes too darn long.
I understand that one way around this is that you can take your article to a professional scanning place that will do it for you for various prices, $25/job plus$1-3/page and up. It's just that I don't have the time to do this and go out and find these places. I just called. I am waiting I suppose for a better machine although for
$3-4000 and up you can get yourself something that will do this. Perhaps when Vivus hits $50/share
I will indulge myself and buy one of these!!
Perhaps Zebra, who appears more Internet oriented than I am can help us put?
