In most respects I think we still are the shining light on the hill.

I don't think there's another country that has a more free people or press.

The only reason N. Korea hasn't invaded S. Korea since 1951 is because we have troops there.

The U.S. has screwed up at times. Even leaders of the U.S. are HUMAN and humans screw up.

The U.S. certainly isn't perfect, but it's still the closest to perfection that humanity has come up with as far as I can tell. If we were as perfect as you'd like us to be I don't think we'd be around very long.
