Yes, but wasn't the intent of the Berlin wall to keep people in? ...the wall was it was being built (yes it was still being built then) To protect E Germany from westerners. Regardless of what they told their people - and actions demonstrated it - more people tried to leave than to get in, right? So yes, the Easterners believed that it was there to keep the evil of the westerners out. The Westerners did not believe it was to keep them out, but to keep the Easterners in; at least that's what I heard :-) Thanks for the first hand experience story, these things are always very interesting!
