re: "Is this new news?"

Not really! I believe it is a less than completely correct
interpretation of older news.

The real reason that iNTEL cut prices is probably their introduction
of three more and significant speed upgrades that loom on the nearby
horizon. This is worrisome for AMD unless they can get their act
together enough to also introduce some upgrades in the near term.
The market action of the stock would appear to say that they are
letting things slip further. It remains to be seen whether the recent
market action is discounting more bad news than is actually happening.

Regards,

DARBES

Cheers,

This is exactly what I'm talking about. Intel will no longer be able to charge these exhorbinant premiums for their high-end chips because they are no longer the only game in town. The high-end is not the strongest portion of the market right now, but it still does command the largest profit margins. With prices dropping, however, Intel has the most to lose. $1.5B in profit a quarter was nice, but this will not last. Who can argue with me on this one? Drbe, StockMoron, Paul Engel?

My only concern with jumping into AMD right now is that when Intel's earnings come out this will cause all tech stocks to drop. AMD's 233 yield issue didn't get fixed until late October so I'm not sure how many of those 233 boxes got into the stores before the Christmas shopping season. Q198 should be the turning point! Will AMD go any lower? This all depends on Q497 earnings for both AMD and Intel.
