Bombardier (BDD.B-T) is selling its amphibious aircraft program to Viking Air and it won an order for 10 CRJ900 regional jets. The CRJ order from an unidentified customer is worth $472-million (U.S.) at list prices. Bombardier's water bombers are widely used around the world to fight forest fires, with 170 in service in 11 countries.

Bombardier in December paused the program to conserve cash. Only three amphibious aircraft were sold in 2015. The regional jet deal, also announced Monday, is an important boost for the CRJ900 program after a first quarter that saw just two orders placed for the aircraft.

The CRJ regional jet was Bombardier's flagship aircraft before it turned its attention to developing the CSeries. Critics have accused Bombardier's management of letting the aging CRJ fall by the wayside, but the company has promised an upgrade to the regional jet family by 2020. Bombardier said in November that it expects CRJ deliveries to be stable between 2016 and 2020. In total, 44 CRJ aircraft were delivered in 2015.

The company also said it plans to cut 200 jobs from its Q400 turboprop plant in Toronto as work is outsourced.
