Your impressions of Germany are interesting, and actually quite similar to many expats who have been in the country for up to 6 months.

If you have a prolonged non-touristy engagement, the facade of the worldly intellectual German falls apart pretty quickly. Like many others, Germans tend to think they know quite a bit about the US and that Americans are ignorant about the rest of the world. In my experience, very few Germans have more than a superficial familiarity with the US. Most Germans know who Donald Trump is. Very few could tell you anything about Ted Cruz. Almost none would be able to name the Secretaries of Defense or Treasury, but would consider themselves quite knowledgeable about US politics.

Ask Germans decrying American ignorance to name the Prime Minister and / or President of the 9 countries surrounding Germany. Your odds of embarrassing them are nearly a sure thing.

In Berlin Mitte, where the video was shot and i happen to live, pro-American would be a very contrary position. Once you have been around long enough, the conformity of thought becomes a bit creepy though Berlin is still a great place to live.
