Poor White Kids Are Less Likely to Go to Prison than Rich Black Kids

amren.com

excerpt:

[...]

“Race trumps class, at least when it comes to incarceration,” said Darrick Hamilton of the New School, one of the researchers who produced the study.

He and his colleagues, Khaing Zaw and William Darity of Duke University, examined data from the National Longitudinal Survey of Youth, a national study that began in 1979 and followed a group of young people into adulthood and middle age. The participants were asked about their assets and debts, and interviewers also noted their type of residence, including whether they were in a jail or prison.

The researchers grouped participants in the survey by their race and their household wealth as of 1985 and then looked back through the data to see how many people in each group ultimately went to prison. Participants who were briefly locked up between interviews might not be included in their calculations of the share who were eventually incarcerated.

About 2.7 percent of the poorest white young people–those whose household wealth was in the poorest 10th of the distribution in 1985, when they were between 20 and 28 years old–ultimately went to prison. In the next 10th, 3.1 percent ultimately went to prison.

[...]

About 10 percent of affluent black youths in 1985 would eventually go to prison. Only the very wealthiest black youth–those whose household wealth in 1985 exceeded $69,000 in 2012 dollars–had a better chance of avoiding prison than the poorest white youth. Among black young people in this group, 2.4 percent were incarcerated.

Hispanic participants who were less affluent in 1985 were more likely to be eventually incarcerated than their white peers with similar wealth, but less likely than black participants.

Poverty/Crime Excuse Smashed

newobserveronline.com

excerpt:

A scientific study of rich and poor black and white youth in the US has definitively smashed the excuse used by nonwhite apologists that poverty “causes” crime.

The study, published in the March 2016 edition of the Race and Social Problems journal, found that poor black males were nearly four times more likely to commit crime than poor white males, and that poor Hispanics were not far behind.

The results showed, said the paper, that the “chances of incarceration in America are always higher for blacks than for whites or Hispanics, regardless of their level of wealth.”

Titled “Race, Wealth and Incarceration: Results from the National Longitudinal Survey of Youth,” the paper was prepared by Khaing Zaw, Statistical Research Associate at Duke University; Darrick Hamilton from The New School Department of Economics, New York; and William Darity, Professor Public Policy, African and African American Studies, and Economics, at Duke University.

Zaw is Chinese, and Hamilton and Darity are black, so there can be no credence given to accusations of “white bias” in this study.

Although obviously set up with the intention of proving some sort of “discrimination,” the study was instead left with an inexplicable—for them, at least—fact: that when all socioeconomic factors are equal, nonwhites still have significantly higher crime rates than whites.

It is a searing indictment on the prized liberal core belief that higher nonwhite crime rates are always the result of “poverty” brought about by “white racism.”

Poverty Causes Crime? Meet White Appalachia

cincinnatiisadump.wordpress.com

excerpt:

White Privilege …yea right. More on this later.

Newsflash: The Top 10 Poorest Counties in America are in Appalachia and populated By Whites.

Folks, this is REAL Poverty seen below, as in no subsidized vouchers to pay for modern forced Central Air (HVAC) with which to set at 85F in the dead of winter paid for by tax payers, but (Whites) Living with NO power or running water, and using stoves that burn wood or coal for heat. No government supplied vouchers are sent to Appalachian families to burn said wood either.

Don’t cut wood = No heat.

Not many Section 8 vouchers either for that matter, in this neck of the woods. Majority White West Virginia is much safer than majority black Mississippi, despite being one of the poorest states in America. West Virginia is the 2nd poorest state (behind only Mississippi), the 4th whitest state at 93.9% white, and is the 13th safest state vs Mississippi which America’s Most Dangerous State at 40% Black, the highest percentage in America. This indicates that race is a better predictor of crime.

‘Yet, The violent crime rate for Appalachia in 2010 was lower than the national violent crime rate average by 56.76%’
