By the time Third generation W-CDMA proposed by the flat world et el (Ericy and company) ever test in a working fashion cdmaONE WLL systems will be so entrenched in the emerging countries telecom systems that they won't be able to sway carriers and goverments.Carriers don't have any realistic expectation there systems are worth considering.Good points made about the scale of diffculty to build ground up CDMA chip design and economies of such an endeavor make looking at cdmaONE a compelling platform of choice as engineer eluded to.Another intresting thing is QUALCOMM is working to build open architecture interfaces at the base station so that a variety of venders and technologies can build hybrid and multiple function compatible interfaces. The more compatible the system the more likely the adaption in the real world. This is where QUALCOMM will excell. They created the best digital technology and they know how to execute in the market industry which is poised to break all sound barriers. There technology is is just bing started to be recognized for the potential it offers and this is GSM's worst nightmare.I am not a telecom professional in fact I am in Anesthesiology but I know in medcine the best technology and advancements often lead to healthier patients and I assume the same would be true in this industry. There is alot of smoke and screen about 3rd generation CDMA and really when it gets down to it the practical system that works is what a carrier will no doubt want to use in order to obtain the best return.CDMA is proving to be an awesome technology for the buck.Ask Sprint if they would give it up!
