I get what you are saying, John. Capital punishment is ineffective unless it is administered swiftly and in a decisive way that deters violent crime. The problem is that today's society isn't willing to swiftly execute criminals. There will ALWAYS be doubt thrown upon the case. It can be over guilt, procedure, or effect on the community. The outcome is the same. In the end, very few criminals will actually get executed, and even fewer if any will be executed swiftly. Hence the death penalty becomes a paper tiger. I personally think because of this, pursuing the death penalty is a waste of time and money. For it to become an effective deterrent would require drastic changes that is prone to mistakes. And our justice system isn't perfect. Tenchusatsu
