Yes, I agree that Reagan's advantage in being a bit more open on Gay issues was most likely due to his Hollywood connections. I read that when he raised his children, however, he would point out Rock Hudson to them & tell his children that Hudson preferred kissing men more than women and that they should not become like that. So he was politically open but not necessarily personally.

My parents were both 'blue collar democrats'. They did not like Reagan's treatment of unions. The only specific union issue that I recall, however, is when Reagan fired the Air Traffic Controllers when their Union went out on strike.

I didn't hear about the Berkeley incident. What year was that?
The Kent State shootings occurred in 1970. The late 1960s & early 1970s where tumultuous times.
Many youth were unjustly treated in that time period protesting the idiotic Vietnam War. But the real fools were the ones who went to Vietnam & were killed or maimed there.

The late 1960s & early 1970s were necessarily liberal to fight the foolish public policies of that time - whether it was Vietnam, Civil Rights, or one of many other issues...

However, today, I think that both Democrat & Republican career politicians are stained with the blood of Afghanistan and other issues.
Perhaps that's why England voted out of the EU - to take control back from it's bureaucracy.
Ironically, that may also be the reason D. Trump is the nominee - people don't perceive him as a career politician regardless of his faults. Or, like myself, I just will not vote for Hillary & her many faults...
