Craig,

Sorry for having to spoil your fun with the buggy PII. Without the L3 cache, your PII-266 might be slower than my Cyrix M2-166Mhz in system response when the cache hit succeeds while browsing the internet.

Basically, Pentium processors are illegal copies of DEC's Alpha which was designed with 3 levels of caches. To cut costs, Intel skipped the L3 cache. As the results, Intel Pentium (P54C & P55C) family has great benchmark rating, but, s-l-o-w to work with.

I wonder if you have used an M2 on 83Mhz bus speed motherboard to make your recommendation on Pentium II?

HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL!
