You do know that said militias were specifically under control of the federal government? Now the militias weren't universally popular with the Founders. Some, like George Washington, thought they were undisciplined and useless outside of certain circumstances. As was proven later in the various rebellions and the War of 1812. After that, the militias were quietly dropped and the National Guard was organized. Which pretty much eliminated the whole rationale for the 2nd Amendment.
