Why don't we look at Texas?

With the decline in oil, things are a little painful. I know a couple of people in the oil bidness here in Dallas. They are not sleeping well...

But ok, what about the state as a whole?

As to Dallas in particular...

Let me put it this way. They are getting ready to charge for the HOV lanes. Most of the new road construction has been for expressways that require a fee to drive on them. And emergency repairs are up. Thursday night when I drove in from Kansas City, they had 3 of 4 lanes of Highway 75 blocked off while the road crews were working. That means regular maintenance has been pushed out until it reaches a crisis.

And that is just roads. Lake Lewisville has an earthern dam. It developed sand boils several years ago. They still haven't done anything about it. Apparently, waiting until it busts is a strategy.

They have been discussing what to do about Fair Park for several years now. Certainly something needs to be done, but getting the money to actually do something is, well, problematic.

I will grant you that Texas isn't quite to the point that Kansas et al are. But if oil doesn't get back to $90+ a barrel, they will be.
