Happy New Year, Dale.

Here's to hoping that the new year brings in the new,
and sweeps out the lingering unpleasantness of the
last couple months.

I agree that the mood of the market could be quite fickle
next week when full attention returns to computer screens
everywhere. This week has looked good, but I just don't
trust it.

By the way, want a madly speculative play? Look at Nexar
(NEXR). They make a new type of motherboard that is designed
to be upgradable without any major surgery. Aimed at the
corporate market where IT managers hate throwing out old
machines every couple years. They IPO'd at 9 and have
swooned as low as 2 1/2. Then this week, with no substantial
news, they've jumped from 2 1/2 to 4 1/4. Too much risk
for my tastes.

Also note that CompUSA reported a strong quarter:

Both CPU and CDWC have been quite strong this week. It might
be a good time to re-examine MALL that we discussed a while ago.
If the good news has a trickle down effect, MALL could be a
beneficiary soon. I still don't know where the 70% growth
in earnings is supposed to come from for MALL (eps of 0.53
for this year and 0.91 for next). However, I did notice this
today that I hadn't before:

biz.yahoo.com

Seems MALL is forming a subsidary to rival ONSL in the
internet computer auction market. Could MALL be seen as
an internet play in 98? They already have 4 web sales
sites, which seem better than most sites I've visited.
And it looks like uBID has just started up with an auction:

ubid.com

Interested in other thoughts.
