I don't really focus much on the fixed income/ preferred space except to the extent that it impacts equities and the overall macro picture. I think your focus on dividend-paying common and preferreds over the past few years was a well placed bet on a bond bubble. In retrospect I might have done the same, but I didn't really delve into macro until last year. I don't really know of a way to buy many of these stocks from a strict margin of safety perspective.

If one is committed to playing this trend, one should (1) have a policy of buying when spreads abruptly widen (as you did earlier this year) (2) have a set of predefined set of sale signals so one does not get caught in a deflation.

I have to credit you with what appears to be strict adherence to a PM system. I don't agree with all the components of your system but you seem to apply it consistently with satisfactory results relative to your goals, which in the end is all one can really expect in this game.
