Totally Off Topic Reply Steve, My company is a contractor to the USAF 45th Space Wing. The Eastern Range is divided into the Cape (Cape Canaveral Air Station) and KSC (Kennedy Space Center). The Cape launch pads launch Atlas, Delta, Titian Rockets. KSC has only two Pads 39A & 39B which launch the Shuttle. The Cape is vital in all launches, though KSC does not participate in 90% the USAF/Commercial rocket launches unless there is a NASA satellite sitting atop of the Rocket. As the DoD's East Coast spaceport and provider of launch-support services, the 45th Space Wing is a far-reaching organization. Its Eastern Range extends more than 10,000 miles form the Florida Mainland through the South Atlantic into the Indian Ocean. The Eastern Range includes the launch head at Cape Canaveral AS and a network of instrumentation stations, including the Malabar and Jonathan Dickinson Tracking Annexes in Florida, and downrange sites at Antigua Air Station and Ascension Auxiliary Air Field. I work in Range Operations Control Center (ROCC). The ROCC combines many functions into one facility including but not limited to Real Time Data Processing, Communications, Timing, Range Safety, Weather, Planning, Scheduling, and is the main hub for Range operations in support of DoD, foreign, commercial, and civil spacelift (manned and unmanned), ballistic launches, spacetrack, and variety of test activities.. My function deals with Real Time Data Processing - Operations, Maintenance & Engineering which support Range Safety. On top of Console Operations during launches, I have a DEC/VAX farm consisting of 88 Dec/VAX 3000, 4000, and 6000 series processors. Range Safety is part of every launch USAF or NASA. Regards, JW@KSC
