Sure. And then they can lie to themselves that he just wasn't conservative enough or he would have won. They'd have a partial point. He isn't very conservative. But that won't be why he will lose. Nor has it been the reason they keep losing the presidency. As Trump proves, a significant portion of their base just does not care about their precious talking points. If not even their base is interested in their talking points, why would they think the rest of the country is interested? I am guessing they don't want to think about the implications of that.
