I tell you what. Let's just agree that there are better and much more dedicated sniper rifles than an ar15. With much greater range... but for the Dallas shooter it would have worked well because the distances weren't that great. otoh, a vintage, 1940s soviet sks carbine was used. Not classified as an assault weapon.

Or are you going to claim that the optical sight and the bipod is what pumped up the price of that rifle to $2200? It's rather typical to spend the same amount of money for the optic as the rifle. I have several $1000+ scopes, better scopes can easily go for $2200+ alone. Real sniper scopes like a Leupold Mark 8 or Schmidt & Bender can go for over $4000. ads.midwayusa.com ads.midwayusa.com Bi-pod - $100 or so.

The standard barrel is 16". Even if I didn't know this, why would that ad make a special effort to point out that it has one that is 20"? That's just it - you don't know. Standard AR15 is 20", but most buyers are looking for the 16" M4 carbine (copy) today, not the "standard rifle". Just like 20/30 round magazines are also standard issue capacities - not high capacity.
