Blacks were an arm of the Republican Party from 1864 to the 1930's.

They started voting strongly for Roosevelt in 1936 and that built to a 77% Black vote for Truman in 1948.

Eisenhower's moves to integrate colleges in the South helped to gain back some Black voters, but what moved them so strongly to the Democrats was the Civil Rights Act passed under Johnson.

ANYBODY is going to support the Party that seems to support THEM or their interests. They'd be foolish not to.
